Peaks to Prairie: A Holistic Regenerative Approach

Dir. Chad Weber | 20 min | 2025

Synopsis

How can we harness the intelligence of nature to address our climate challenges?

An epidemic of wildfires threatens forests in the peaks, while nearby agricultural soils in the prairie sit degraded. Is there a holistic way these two problems could serve as solutions for each other?

Featuring: Boulder Watershed Collective / Boulder Mushroom / Grama Grass & Livestock

Boulder Watershed Collective is a nonprofit organization that partners with residents, experts, and agencies to restore forested watershed health, enhance climate resilience, and foster community stewardship across the Boulder Creek Watershed through projects in water quality, forest restoration, wildfire mitigation, wildlife conservation, mining reclamation, and public engagement

Boulder Mushroom uses native fungi to turn excess wood biomass into living soil—through projects in biomass management, soil health and water retention, and reforestation with mycorrhizal inoculants—to regenerate landscapes, improve soil fertility, and aid plant establishment

Grama Grass & Livestock employs management-intensive rotational grazing, mimicking historic bison migrations, where cattle are moved frequently and then rested, which enriches soil, suppresses weeds, enhances native biodiversity, sequesters carbon, mitigates wildfire risk, and restores prairie ecosystems.
